Well, Opening Day was nothing short of madness. Fun madness, but madness nonetheless. :)
I had a blast. I was happy to see so many people out to watch the game, but I certainly felt the atmosphere had become slightly more toxic from last season. We definitely had the most fans we've ever had at any game, but some of those fans were acting poorly and making the experience less fun for everyone else.
This game is supposed to be fun. When actions cause players to stop having fun then it's time to rethink and address some things.
Here's the deal. People are having a hard time respecting the referees' authority. I made a post about this last season when it started getting out of hand, and I find myself making it again now for the new players who've never seen it. You have to respect the refs. You can call us corrupt and whatever you want, but if you don't listen to us then the whole game will fall off the rails.
I hate having to do this but here's two players that are suspended from for one game due to their actions today.
/u/it_needs_bees - This one is simple and I talked to him about it afterwards. Towards the end of Opening Day, since Orion couldn't make it out, we had decided Swisston and Roma would play a game. However, before we could start it_needs_bees came onto the ice and killed me accidentally. I forgot to sleep in a bed in Brimstone and spawned back in Little Latvia, over 10km away. Bees will be suspended from playing in Brimstone's next game, and I again want to applaud him for accepting his suspension graciously.
Kevalalajnen - Keva was cheering for Aytos during the first game and disagreed with some of the ref's calls. They were quite verbal in chat about their disgust with the refs, which was fine, but then they began throwing random things onto the ice which can mess up the game a lot. We asked them to stop the entire game, but they continued to do it throughout all the matches today. Thankfully, Joesiv2000 and I were on it picking them up quickly before they could ruin the experience but Keva is still faced with a one game suspension, in which can they neither play nor attend the next Aytos game. If you cannot behave yourself in the arena as a fan then you don't get to be a fan. I was also able to talk to them afterwards and while not happy with the suspension they seemed accepting of it.
A warning to the Brimstone Blazes. Towards the end of their game, in which they received multiple penalties, they brought 4 players onto the ice instead of 3 and were forced to forfeit. If something like that happens again you could be facing at having the whole team suspended.
/u/Kahzootoh, ign Kaithefirston - BANNED :O. I don't bring out the ban hammer for anything but they put a bounty on Joesiv's and my heads for being the refs at a game they lost. I thought it was a joke and a pretty good one too, but once I found out they were serious I realized that it's probably not good business practice to have people that want to kill you around. Seeing as how Kaithefirstson was never on the player registry to begin with this isn't a big issue.
Guys, for real. This is a minecraft hockey league. I don't need insults and stress every weekend from this stuff. If the current atmosphere of toxicity continues then the league will be ruined for everyone.
I'm hoping next weekend will be much better, since there will be less teams at the games and therefore a much more manageable mob of fans and players. Today was fun, but it was chaotic and hard to orchestrate the games we did. I want to thank everyone who was there and helped with the games, especially Joesiv2000 for helping me ref so I could eat my lunch. :)
Thank you for reading, stay awesome. :D
