“Over the past term and a half we have seen this Green-led government enact policies which have, to put it bluntly, harmed New Zealand. Whether it be their war on our primary industries and regions, an increase in the regulatory and tax burden placed on Kiwi businesses and families, or their erratic and oftentimes naive foreign policy, New Zealand is in a worse place than where the National Party left it.
“However, the incompetence of this cabinet has come to a head in recent times. Now the government cannot even agree on which damaging policies they wish to implement. Ministers seemingly find it impossible to maintain collective cabinet responsibility. The Leader of the House regularly fails to set the government’s legislative agenda. Motions with serious diplomatic ramifications are submitted without the approval of cabinet. Ministers do not respond to oral questions, showing a total disregard for transparent governance. And above all, Parliament and the New Zealand people are still waiting to be presented with the government’s budget - despite the fact that we are two thirds of the way through this term.
“For the reasons stated above, I can now announce that the Official Opposition has submitted a motion of no confidence in the government. We have long since passed the point where the incompetence of cabinet could be chalked up to inexperienced ministers. There are two competing factions within this government, but just one of them bears the responsibility for the woes that this government is suffering from. They are responsible for the woes that this country is suffering from. This radical faction within the government has ignored cabinet protocol, caused significant infighting and vitriol between ministers, and ultimately has prevented the reasonable governance of New Zealand.
“Everyone here knows what this radical faction is. Everyone in Parliament knows. Most importantly, the New Zealand public knows, and they have punished this faction in the polls accordingly. This radical faction is the Green Party, and they must go. With a general election in the not so distant future, New Zealanders need a government which will act competently, will act transparently, will act in unison, and will act in the interests of the whole country - a government which New Zealanders can once again say they are proud of. Unfortunately, the present government just isn’t it, and things must change.”
