Following an extremely eventful day in New Zealand politics, Prime Minister /u/Fresh3001 addressed members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery. Flanked by Deputy Prime Minister /u/NinjjaDragon and Foreign Minister /u/Mattsthetic, the Prime Minister delivered a statement regarding the stability of the government.
"Following the results of the last election, neither I nor the Deputy Prime Minister suffered from any illusions regarding the stability of our support partner. Both the ACT caucus and the National caucus were full of competent and bright MPs, keen to implement their vision of a better New Zealand. Unfortunately, the success of this government was hamstrung by a support partner who turned out to be an incompetent that seriously misrepresented his political ideology during the formation of this government. When United Future first violated our confidence and supply agreement by voting against the Capital Gains Tax and Sugar Tax Repeal bill I seriously considered planning for a minority government, or even worse an early dissolution of Parliament. However, after a lengthy discussion with Cabinet, we came to the conclusion that perseverance would be the best way to serve the New Zealand people. I believe that was the correct decision, and the progress of our legislation through Parliament is a testament to that. Yet now the rightful government of New Zealand finds itself on ostensibly on a precipice due to yet another breach of the agreement, even more egregious than the last.
"However, despite how close to that precipice this government may seem, I am entirely confident that we will see the term out. I believe that it is in the best interests of the country for me to continue as Prime Minister in a minority government until the election, and I believe that the parties across the aisle in Parliament recognise our moral majority. While I am extremely disappointed in /u/TheOWOTriangle for his many violations of our governing agreement, the Executive Council is better off without him. ACT MP /u/TheSilentAsh will be replacing him as Minister of Culture and will be a valuable addition to not just cabinet, but to the Ministry of Culture which he will oversee. In addition to this, it seems only just that the government will withdraw the Rebuilding Places of Worship Bill from the order paper - United Future's withdrawal from the confidence and supply agreement nullifies any obligation the government had to pass their legislation. Finally, I wish to reassure the New Zealand people that this government will stand strong in the days leading to the election - the date of which will be released shortly."
