A statement from the Prime Minister /u/Fresh3001 today announced that the Minister for Internal Affairs, /u/BellmanTGM, would be temporarily relinquishing his portfolio in order to pass the Misuse of Drugs (Select Hallucinogenic Substances) Amendment Bill as a private member.

"Today, I am proud to announce that the ACT Party will continue our effort to liberalise our drug laws, by retaining the Misuse of Drugs (Select Hallucinogenic Substances) Amendment Bill. While ACT is committed to our reforms in this area, we understand why other members object to such legislation, and it is not a part of this government's agenda. As such, we have decided to pass it as a private members' bill, under the responsibility of /u/BellmanTGM. In order for this to occur, /u/BellmanTGM has put aside his personal ambitions and has resigned as the Minister for Internal Affairs. I intend to assume the responsibilities of the Internal Affairs portfolio for the duration of time the bill remains in the house - once it is passed, /u/BellmanTGM will return as Minister. I look forward to the coming debate during the second reading of this bill, and have the utmost confidence of /u/BellmanTGM in his responsibility to help pass it."
