Yes I use the decarbed smaller buds and sugary trim that's really still buds (I like high potency so I'm really strict about what I use for smoking/cooking) from my grows. I've also made it with wax I've made, or purchased which is the easiest and cleanest method of infusion. I use an old fashioned process of boiling the cannabis on low heat with water and butter for infusion. Then I let the butter set up, remove the water and do that a couple more times to filter it the best I can so it doesn't taste too "weedy." With wax, you decarb on a silpat or wax paper sheet until it stops bubbling, then simply add it to the oil or fat of your choice. I've infused heavy cream w shatter to make ice cream and so forth. You can use coconut oil, (or any temperate oil with a high smoke point,) if you want a healthier alternative. You just can't filter it out as easily.
