Jittery FPS and random tiny lag spikes after updating

Post Body

So I was playing some modded minecraft last night after updating the launcher and after around an hour of gameplay my mc suddenly completely froze up for about 10 seconds and then crashed back to the launcher, showing me the message ā€œAn unexpected issue has occurred and the game has crashedā€. I thought to myself ā€˜fair enough, itā€™s modded mc. The game just crashes every once in a while.ā€™ So I hop back on and then about maybe 20-30 minutes later the same thing happens again, causing me to lose a decent chunk of progress this time.

So now Iā€™m angry and confused. This canā€™t be a result of the mods, since Iā€™ve been playing this pack for a while and Iā€™ve never had this issue. I decide to check if java needs an update and lo and behold it does. So I update java, thinking that mustā€™ve been the issue, but when I hop back on mc the frame rate is a little more jittery than it was and I have tiny little lag spikes lasting probably 0.1-0.2 seconds, almost like mini versions of the big lag spikes which caused the game to crash.

However, I played for over 3 hours and the game didnā€™t crash like before, so Iā€™m assuming that issue is now fixed. But the jittery FPS and little lag spikes are extremely annoying and are ruining the experience. Even more worryingly, these problems seem not only to affect this modded mc world but any world in any version now, even vanilla. Also, I should mention that the two crashes didnā€™t produce any crash log, helpfully.

Has anyone else had this issue before? If so, how did you fix it? Iā€™m reluctant to uninstall and reinstall my whole minecraft since it seems like a big pain and it might not even solve the issue.

TL;DR MC kept freezing and then crashing. Updated java and this fixed the crashing issue but made fps jittery and created mini lag spikes every few seconds. How do I fix this?
