I'm graduating college this December, and shipping this February. Under my name, I have about 19k in student loans. Under my dads name, he has about 97k in parent plus loans. We plan to refinance the parent plus loan in order to have it transferred to my name, at a lower interest rate.
I don't need to make any payments on my debt until 4/23/26. No payments are required, for the parent plus loans, until 7/2/25.
I have enough to pay off the 19k, out right. But I have nothing that'll make an immediate dent into the 97k.
Once I'm in service, are there low interest loan opportunities that I can use to pay off the 97k, then just have the lower monthly payments? Or any loan forgiveness programs that I can take advantage of?
I'm enlisting and plan to apply into WO about 3 years in to my contract. Beyond the obvious, of starting as an officer, what can I do to help myself pay off the 97k once I'm in?
I have no bonus's and am not eligible for the student loan repayment program.
