How to meet new people?

I just moved to a new city (Tallahassee) a few months ago and I haven't meet anyone yet but that's because I don't go anywhere except work and the clinic.
I'm pretty shy and introverted. I prefer to stay home and read or watch TV. But I'm 36 years old and I need to make some friends.
How do you guys meet new people???
