HI all,
Me and my partner (M23, F22) are going to be headed to newbies night next week for our first ever experience in this lifestyle! We had a few questions to hopefully ease our nerves:
- We are pretty young, will that make us stand out in any way? good or bad Hahaha
- We are both south Asian, although have lived in Australia our whole lives - how open is the community, particularly at BFWB with people of different races beyond white-australian? been reading some stories on here and it wasn't exactly encouraging...
- Leading on from the last two, what sort of crowd should we expect, I've read quite diverse but does it skew any particular way normally?
Finally, if you plan to be there next friday (8/3) feel free to let us know, might be nice to make a friend before we go, also any tips in general would be greatly welcomed.
Thanks in advance everyone!
We're also 22/23 MF so I feel like we're in a good position to answer!
To be honest you may stand out a bit - we certainly do when we go to the non-age restricted nights. Occasionally we get silly comments "you're our kids age" "wow you're so young to be here" etc but we don't let it bother us and stick to people more our age - generally these people are under 35. In our experience people are always fine with us being there and we get a lot of attention and positive response. If you've both got a good attitude and a willingness to engage and chat with other attendees then you'll have no issues whatsoever.
There are people from many different ethnicities there. You are correct the largest demographic is white-australian but we've met people from all over - Korea, south America, Germany, China, Sri Lanka and more!
Crowd you can expect at a newcomers night is a very wide age range as well as a very wide range of experience levels. For this reason we've only been to a handful of these nights because whilst they are super diverse they can be hit and miss in terms of people who are either way too keen or incredibly difficult to talk to. For a first time it's important to not have any expectations on the night - just go in with an open mind and a keenness to chat and mingle. Have a look at the recent post titled "Advice for first timers at Between Friends Wine Bar, feel free to ask any Q's" if you haven't already as there's some excellent tips there :)
Feel free to reach out to us via DM if you've got any other questions! You will get a lot of people writing to your DMs in the meantime just a heads up
