So a few months back i decided i wanted a new keyboard and what i wanted was some good keycaps and an overall high quality keyboard with atleast a little bit of rgb. I'm no rgb fanatic but i like some light. After a whole bunch of searching around and asking around i came to the conclusion that i would have a 110% made from the customizer at Varmilo in China. To be clear Varmilo keyboards are sold locally but none ticked all the boxes so i decided that i would just build one that did..
I wasn't disappointed.
The keyboard came within 6 hours or so of the time and date that i was told it would appear from the tracking website and overall shipping took a week or two (I dont remember the exact time it took) which i found impressive given that i ordered it at best a few days before the chinese newyear and it had go be shipped to europe and go through customs all in the middle of covid-19. The package arrived completely undamaged and very well packaged in my opinion.
There are only 3 things that i would like to mention about this keyboard (One of which i fixed in 30 seconds) It came with the S and D key reversed. I would have liked to be able to get white text (But the black looks really cool anyway) And at last i would have liked the feel of an all metal case but i don't actually mind this plastic because it doesn't feel cheap by any means.
Other than the abovementioned 3 things the experience so far has been as good as or better than you could possibly expect.
The switches i chose were MX Blues and with PBT caps the sound is in my opinion pretty nice. I can see why people say MX Blues aren't the best for gaming but really good for writing but it isn't actually a problem for gaming at all. I believe the price before shipping was 200 USD /-10. I have definitely seen worse deals than that.
So the end result? Yes if i would have shelled out twice that i could've built myself a really really neat keyboard and if i can build a pc i'm sure i can learn keyboards too but for the price i paid i'll say Varmilo is worth a look for anyone looking for their first mechanical keyboard and are still looking at Corsair and Razer etc. Looking at these more "obscure" brands really paid off as opposed to jumping on the bandwagon and buying the newest "gaming keyboard".
