I was wondering if I could get some advice on a very potential project I'm about to start. My grandmother (who can no longer drive) has a 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with about 125,000 miles on it that she has owned since it was brand new. She obviously didn't put a ton of mileage on it over the years and in the last couple of years, has not been able to drive it due to her getting older and other medical reasons. I've been picking her up from work from time to time and I asked her about the 4Runner. I know these 4Runners are coveted vehicles and with such low mileage, I'd hate for the thing to just sit out front of her house and rot away.
I'm going to take the truck from her and roll it into my garage at home and start to go through a checklist of things that need to be done. She's had some minimal work on it over the years like an alternator and water pump, as well as maintaining it regularly for the most part up until about a 2-3 years ago when she really started to stop driving. She has the records but I haven't put eyes on them as of yet.
I'm debating on what to do here? I know I could probably sell it for her as is and get some extra cash in her pocket, fix it up and keep it for myself (pay her for it obviously), or fix it up and try to maximize her profit. I would assume the super low mileage would work in her favor as well.
I've listed below some things I'm going to do for sure as well as things that I'm going to assume need to be done once I look it over. If any of you guys could go over my list and add anything that you think is either specific to this vehicle that I'm not aware about or something I may have missed, I would greatly appreciate it.
-Oil (It probably hasn't had an oil change in two years. However, it probably hasn't been driven 500 miles since it's last one) Still going to change the oil obviously.
-Other fluids. Coolant, differential, transmission.
-Brakes! Just from my quick look over, the brakes absolutely need replacing.
-Look over suspension and replace anything that looks worn. I wouldn't be surprised if just about every piece on the suspension needs to be replaced. She may have had some things done but again, I haven't seen the records.
-Spark plugs, coils, wires.
-Tires. I wouldn't be surprised if they're dry rotted to hell.
That's about it in terms of what I can think off for starters. I pretty much have unlimited time to work with this truck. So anything else you guys think of would be greatly appreciated and I'll add it to the list.
