Over the last few days, the Mandela effect and the movie Shazaam have been prominent topics of conversation in our house. That got me thinking, and I did some research. Several people have theories that could disprove the existence of Shazaam. But none of them seem to hold any weight for the people who distinctly remember this movie.
- It's from a preview of Kazaam at the beginning of First Kid (which stars Sinbad). Everyone I've asked remembers differently, and they are not confusing the two.
- It's a character that appeared in an Ishbu skit on All That. Everyone I asked remembers something totally different.
- It's from when he hosted Sinbad the Sailor movies. I asked around, and nope, definitely not at all the same.
- People are getting it confused with another Sinbad, which is a character from a different story. Example 1 Example 2 Nope, not the same, according to others.
- Someone also found this. I showed it to someone who remembers Shazaam, and she said it was closer to what she remembers, but it's still not the same thing.
Another Redditor also remembers specific plot details. I have confirmed these memories with others. So, as I dive deeper into this mystery, it only gets creepier!
Edit #1: One more! There has been a picture floating around the internet claiming to be a photo of the Shazaam VHS tape. Snopes actually looked into this. As it turns out, someone photoshopped Sinbad's head onto a wrestler's body.
Edit #2: /u/EpicJourneyMan and /u/dreampsi workjed together and created an awesome movie poster based on all the details that people have provided. I asked my roommate, and it's exactly what she remembers. It looks great! Thanks guys!
Edit #3: The last bulleted item above mentions this poster. But I found a video that debunked it.
