Rim cleaning

I ride a 2019 MT-07 with the red/orange rims and I'm reading a lot about cleaning them with WD-40. But I'm kind of apprehensive, won't that damage the paint?
Looking for any advice how you guys keep them clean, especially on the back tire with all the chain grease, is WD-40 really the way to go?

A bit of old fuel works fine too. I wouldn't leave it on for too long though as I've heard that can be corrosive so have a spare damp cloth to rinse with water when you've gotten rid of the chain shit dirt.
