PLounge Fortress -- Because we thought a succession game might be a great idea.
Post Body

So after generating copious amounts of Fun during my Dwarf Fortress stream; I got the idea into my head that maybe a succession game is in due order. Using the Masterwork mod pack for extra Fun.

So let's do this! Anyone who is even remotely familiar with playing DF is welcome to sign up for their chance to oversee "Blisterfate"! "Trenchwall"!

Rules

  • One in-game year is one turn. You play until you see the "Spring has arrived!" text and zip it up for the next overseer.

  • When your turn is over, pick a dwarf and name it after yourself. This is the next turn's 'retired overseer' and is just there for story-telling purposes.

  • If for some reason an Overseer cannot complete their turn: we'll revert to the previous save and pass it to the next in line. As if the incomplete turn had never happened.

  • Dwarf Fortress is a game that is best played when telling a story. During your turn, post frequent updates with screenshots to a fresh new thread. Try to really get into the game; Role-play a little!
    Here's some inspiration...

  • Anything goes as long as it does not render the next turn unplayable.
E.G: Flooding, intentional shutdown of various defenses, or herding the entire fort population into a slaughter house.
In addition, don't use bridges to instantly-kill megabeats.
    That's just boring.
And of course, don't use DFHack to cheat.

Not-quite-rules-but-neat-ways-to-involve-others

  • With each migration wave, check your thread and see if anyone who isn't keen on playing would like a dwarf named after them.

  • Try to use the Phoebus tileset for consistency; Although you're free to use whatever you please.

FAQ

Where do I sign up?
Just post in this thread!

I'm terrible at the game; Can I still play?
Oh you bet.

Where do I post my updates?
/r/MLPLounge, for now. Keep it one submission and just keep updating it. If the mods don't like it, we'll pop open our own subreddit or something.

How often should I update?
As often as you like! Although seasonal updates are probably the easiest to manage and digest.

What is X and how does it interact with Y?
I'd suggest keeping the wiki open at all times. Masterwork also comes with additional documentation you should check out. It streamlines a couple of things and adds a ton of new content.

Oh god the Military menu is a mess please help!

Where can I get Masterwork?
Right here. It has it's own launcher just like the Lazy Newb Pack, too! Don't worry about any options past the SETTINGS tab; Those are written into the save file and have already been set by me.

How do I use the save file?
Unzip it to yourinstall/Dwarf Fortress/data/save The folder should be called "region2". Make sure you delete any existing saves instead of overwriting them!

I look forward to running the place into the ground building a prosperous future for our citizens with you fellas!
