#GEXIII [South East London] FTMP talks about eliminating single-use plastics
Author Summary
fartoomuchpressure is in South East London
Post Body

A group of people looked on with confusion as a bunch of Labour Party volunteers set-up a large see-through container in the middle of an impromptu stage that had been assembled a couple of moments earlier there confusion only growing when the Labour Party volunteers proceeded to fill the tank with water.

As soon as the tank was filled up with water a recognisable figure appeared, it was fartoomuchpressure, the local member of parliament and they were holding a series of plastic bags and some scissors

"I suppose you are wondering what I am doing here today holding a bunch of plastic bags over a tank of water, so let me show you without speaking," the Labour MP said using the scissors to cut the plastic bags to shreds and dump it into the water.

"What you are witnessing here is one of the key reasons that we should eliminate single-use plastics like plastic bags, as while these shreds of plastics might look harmless to you in an empty tank of water just picture the harm they'll do when they are mistaken for items of food by the various animals that rely upon our oceans and waterways for survival.

I am showcasing this here today because there is a movement that exists in British politics to claim that efforts to ban single-use plastics is not a worthwhile endeavour and that it is just some vain attempt to win a popularity contest.

I don't think that working to protect our marine ecosystem from the dangers of plastic pollution is a worthwhile endeavour, and according to a recent study produced by the centre for international environmental law that looked at the lifecycle of the production of plastic we must act to eliminate as much of it as possible from our daily lives.

I was thankful when parliament acted and worked to ban single-use plastics while protecting those with disabilities, however, as I mentioned earlier there is a movement in British politics to reverse the progress that has been made not just on eliminating the use of plastic but also the ban on the dangerous ban of fracking.

In order to continue with the progress that has been made, and further our cause to fight climate change by decarbonising our energy sector and phasing out coal by 2025, and gas by 2030, and the only way to ensure that is to send a strong Labour voice to parliament, so on election day please go out and give your support to the Labour Party."
