Labour candidate for Surrey u/Maroiogog started his campaign ringing doorbells on the outskirts of Guildford.
Many of the people he met asked him what plans Labour had to increase housing security and availability.
“The Labour party is and always will be committed to securing the rights of the weakest amongst us, and housing is a key part in this vision of ours. That is why in our manifesto we have pledged to initiate the construction of 300’000 new council houses, so that as many britons as possible can live in cheap accommodation which is ran for the public good rather than just for profit. Furthermore we will ensure these, and all council houses stay in the hands of the state through the repeal of the right to buy scheme. We must reject the view that further liberalisation is needed in the housing market, as tenants are in a vulnerable situation. I oppose the proposition from the LPUK to abolist HMO licensing and putting the private sector in charge of all new housing expansion”
Another recurring concern of the citizens he met was the preservation of the NHS, the candidate has this to say on the topic:
“If you want to be sure the NHS will get what it needs from the exchequer and that it stays within the hands of the state, vote for the party that made it in the first place, the Labour party. As we pledged in our manifesto, our top priority will always be to ensure the proper funding of the institution, amount which is planned to increase to between £150-200bn. Meanwhile the libertarian manifesto states clearly their plan to cut funding to the NHS and sell it off to private companies, introducing obligatory private insurance coverage. We all know what is happening in the USA with private healthcare where millions of people struggle to get what here in this country we rightfully consider a right. Our party will always put people ahead of tax cuts. We also plan on building greater integration between social and health services in order to deliver a better and more flexible service to communities, especially with regards to the ever more important topic of mental health.”
The candidate spent the rest of the afternoon distributing leaflets and talking to more constituents.
