So here we are again, 4 weeks after the first Labour Press Release where we revealed our sneaky Leadership elections, now we have more elections with more people to announce! Due to the opening of the Lords, we’ve had to have elections to replace those MPs taking up party peerages and achievement peerages. For the Lords, we did not hold elections (oh the democracy!) but for their replacements, we held elections. In total there were 5 positions on offer, for which we had 10 candidates. The candidates were /u/thedexer102, /u/akc8, /u/Politics42, /u/DELB_, /u/Tomtom_988, /u/Delstein, /u/cumbrianwolf, /u/WhatIsEddMayNeverDie, /u/Captiousness, and /u/Gerzipay. After all the votes were counted, our gracious Leader announced that 41 valid votes had been cast, a record achievement in the Labour Party! After a gruelling STV calculation by /u/can_triforce, the results were finally in at 1.30am, and the elected candidates were /u/thedexer102, /u/akc8, /u/Politics42, /u/DELB_, and /u/Tomtom_988. The party is extremely happy with the elected candidates, all of whom have been actively involved in the party on Skype and with policy creation.
A full breakdown of the results can be found in this extensive pastebin.
The Co-Operative Party has recently seen activity, with bills and motions relating to energy and education being created by members and affiliates of the party. It is hoped that as these progress, the party will continue to pick up activity, but as it remains without a Chairman, activity may remain limited.
As I was standing in the Speakership election, I thought I’d make a statement regarding it - ‘I'd like to thank everyone who put their trust in me to lead MHoC into the future, it is touching that you would want to put me, a relative unknown, at the helm of our community. I'm honoured, surprised and delighted at the support that I got. I'd also like to congratulate Rory on his election, even if it was rather inevitable! Despite not winning, this election has allowed me to talk to a lot more of you around here, so it has benefited me enormously regardless. I am probably most disappointed that Moose, with his crazy ideas, came in second place above me, but I suppose his personality cult was triumphant! Once again thank you to everyone who voted for me, and best of luck to /u/RoryTime during his tenure as Speaker.’
Thank you for reading, enjoy your evening.
