Seat ownership after a by-election rule change

Okay, so I have been thinking about this for quite some days now and it baffles me that a seat that goes to a by-election because it was a constituency seat that was owned by an individual (from a grouping) remains an 'individual seat'.
I seriously don't get why. The new owner is in most cases a member of a major/minor party, so why does it belong to an individual instead of the party?
I would like to see this changed in the MHoC Constitution, because in my opinion, when a seat is won by a party it should become owned by the party that won the seat in the by-election.
