Order, order!
Motion to recognise the flaws of the Act of Union and the proposed National Culture Day
The House Recognises that :
(1) The 1801 Act of Union is a highly controversial and inflammatory matter in Northern Ireland.
(2) The 1801 Act of Union removed Ireland's right to its own parliament, and itās ability to make its own laws.
(3) The CCLG Secretary in delivering his statement announcing this policy chose to commend the Act of Union for its part in āemboldening the British Empireā and selected the 22nd of January as National Culture Day to celebrate the Act of Union. - This proposal has received uniform condemnation from the Opposition and from Stormont leaders
Therefore this House urges the government to:
(1) Recognise the 1801 Act of Union as a controversial, inflammatory part of British history, which damaged our relations with Ireland and the stability of Northern Ireland.
(2)Reverse the decision to hold National Culture Day on the anniversary of the 1801 Act of Union, which has needlessly increased tensions in Northern Ireland.
This motion was written by /u/seimer1234 on behalf of the LPUK and is co-sponsored by the IPP
This division shall end on the 21st at 10pm!
