Order, order!

A Motion to reaffirm the government's commitment to juxtaposed Belgian and French border controls

This House recognises:

• The current UK juxtaposed border controls, also known as bureaux à contrôles nationaux juxtaposés, is of substantial benefit to the security of the UK and the management of incoming traffic of people seeking to immigrate to the UK.

• It is also in the Republic of France’s interests to keep these border controls in place.

• It is also in the Kingdom of Belgium’s interests to keep these border controls in place.

• That the two aforementioned agreements are not dependent on the UK’s membership of the European Union. They predate the creation of the EU and as a result require separate attention.

This House therefore urges:

• The current government to commit keeping “Le Touquet agreement” between the United Kingdom and the Republic of France, and the equivalent agreement with the Kingdom of Belgium in place.

• The current government to pledge to resist pressure from any other country or other organisation to remove or otherwise amend these agreements.
