Still, Gawd Dam did he hit a home run with this movie. “On The Count of Three” deserves way more love. A dark humorous existential contemporary Black film that does cannot be put in an easy box. Contemporary original Cinema hits different than period pieces. Tiffany Haddish is a crazy lady yet keeps giving good performances. Both her and Jerrod are better on set than on stage.
Im supposed to buy the Oscar’s idea that there were 5 better original screenplays than this? FOH. Of course, this is the same instuition that lazily supported Woody Allen on his way to an unbreakable 16 orginial screenplay nominations, more than double the next best writer.
If there are any wealthy white people reading this, please help fund this black man’s next originial screenplay. Thank you for reading.
