Edit: Scotland

Bit of a weird one, but just trying to wade through all the rubbish on Facebook and work out what's actually right. Almost 2 weeks ago an 83 year old woman was raped, article from the BBC here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-53323735

Today a 21 year old who has been named, appeared in front of the sheriffs court, unfortunately I can only find a Facebook link, but all the local papers have reported that he entered no plea, was committed for further examination and released on bail (shitty facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/803925336330533/posts/3284550228268019/ )

Can you help me understand why or how he was able to not enter a plea, what it means by committed for further investigation, and why he would have been released on bail? I work in the area and know that there are a lot of very angry people who will definitely try to kill him if he appears in the local area tonight - will he have been temporarily housed somewhere?

I'm absolutely horrified at what was done to the lady (obviously!) but also feel very uncomfortable with the facebook 'trials' that are going on, and the threats made as well.
