So, a bit of background for you. In early 2019 I was cleaning the fabric barrier from our vacuum cleaner (Karcher). I was doing this by scrubbing it with a brush head which turned out to be nylon - the friction from doing so generated a static shock so strong I felt it shoot up both my arms and into my shoulders, really REALLY painful at the time and I subsequently had pins and needles in both my hands and forearms for about 2 weeks after. Ever since then, if something hard hits my hands, or if I’m on my hands and knees playing with the cat or dog and move my head too quickly, I get the painful pins and needles back in my hands for a few days and my fingers go red. It’s eye wateringly uncomfortable and prevents me from sleeping, the only thing that relieves the pain is either strong painkillers or soaking my hands in ice and water. I’ve had to stop playing sport on the weekends because of this. So over Christmas it happened again and I had enough and went to the doctors about it - his assessment is that I’ve got Peripheral Neuropathy consistent with having suffered a strong electric shock and given that 4 years later I still have pain, the nerve damage is likely permanent. I’ve since checked out the vacuum manual and nowhere does it offer any advice around how to clean that particular component of the vacuum. What are my available courses of action here? I’ve read that 3 years is the accepted time limit for claiming compensation or 3 years from the diagnosis. Have I left this too late, even though I’ve only found out the true extent of the damage last month?
