Help: Leather helmet repair

Post Body

Iā€™m a firefighter from New York and Iā€™m trying to repair my leather helmet that needs a repainting after being stripped and sanded. I need help figuring out how to strip it down to the leather without destroying the leather. I used engine paint on the leather after applying three layers of primer, any recommendations? I was thinking citrustrip at low doses and then sand it down after that, appreciate any help
