I cried today....3-Month Post CXL
Post Body

3 Month Post Op CXL Both Eyes These damn eye charts again. Trust me when I say, no I can not see anything out of this eye. ————-

Had an appointment for my 3 month post op as well as optometrist for contacts fitting today. Was super excited to finally get RGP’d for my left and right eye, with my left eye needing it the most. A new issue I came across was where I have been using my right dominant eye more, my left eye “lazes” away, seeing everything as blurry. As the doc said my brain has been programmed to rely on my right eye. This fact made taking any tests that required me to stare at any dot or red balloon difficult. I had to force my left eye to “look where I thought was straight” for them to get a reading. The doc said that once I was fitted with a lense it would lessen if not go away completely, but it made the post op checkup difficult. In the bad eye I have now light astigmatism, a refraction and a SCAR in the center of my cornea which is the main reason m vision is horrid.

I was still given the okay to go see the new optometrist (Druid Hills Eye Care) and they were extremely friendly and nice even though I barely had the spirit to deal with the updates. One of the doctors, upon reading my charts and testing my vision in the left and right eye immediately recommended me for scleral lenses. I was frightened of them because, the costume contacts where the lense covered the entire surface is what I had envisioned. But the doctor showed me what he meant and I was accepting of them. However there was an issue.

I had already used my Eye Med benefit for the year! On temporary cheap glasses. Since my work involves data analytics I have had the hardest time working. I begged them to give me a temporary prescription so that I could get temporary glasses to work, even though my vision was changing constantly. I went to America’s best with the prescription. The glasses cost me a total $30 with no coating or anti glare. Because I knew I would need contacts. I was not aware that I still had to have that benefit to redeem medically necessary contact lenses. It didn’t make sense. I was in tears because the options I had were to save 3k to pay out of pocket, or wait until next year. The doctors even asked me if I was driving because my vision is so bad- I’m legally blind because of one eye. They described my cornea surface as a hilled land when it should be smooth.

This tore me apart and I was really frustrated with the entire journey. The doctor suggested that I go back to America’s best and do a refund and ask for my benefit to be reinstated. I would also have to make another appointment and come back to get fitted or go with the other options of paying out of pocket. I did go back to America’s best and the manager there was gracious enough to understand my situation and process the refund. I then had to call EM and confirm the reinstating that would take a few days. But I cried them too because It gave me hope that there were still good people on this earth, with everything happening in the world today.
