I'm a full time freelance journalist, mostly writing for magazines. I'm relatively new to actually making $ at this job but I don't know how to advance my wages/asking price for work.
When I go back to my recurring publications they obviously want to pay me the same as the last time. How do I move the dial forward in my favor?
And when I go to a new publication, how do I ask for more than I received from my other pubs?
Is it realistic to put in time as a freelancer at a few publications, get some great clips, and move on to better paying gigs? I'm really a dummy about all of this. If anyone can give some insight, help, or direct me to resources to think broader and bigger about my income would be appreciated. Please be gentle!
