I only qualify for 65 hours a month for my father who is blind & physically disabled. It makes me wonder how disabled a person has to be to qualify for more hours. I am practically his eyes & cook / drive him around, but we’ve been doing this for 2 years now & both caseworkers that have visited us somehow don’t think we qualify for more hours. We honestly feel like prejudice plays a role in their determination whenever they’ve come to our home, but we don’t want to make it seem like we’re just pulling that card.
My question is , how else do we as live in providers make more money if our recipients require close to 24-hour supervision.. ?
A few weeks ago, I got excited about the sickpay hours , since it’s a new year. But then I got pretty sad when I realized that you can not claim until July.
Any little bit helps. We also are on EBT since I’m unable to work a separate fulltime job, because I care for my father. We qualify for $260 for a month. I’m grateful to atleast get that , food is atrociously high right now.
How have you been able to make additional money on the side? Does IHSS give you enough hours each month?
I’m in Los Angeles County.
