In 1526, Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent launched a campaign into southern Europe, invading the Kingdom of Hungary. At the Battle of Mohacs, the Ottomans had a decisive victory, resulting in the routing of the Hungarian army and the death of the Hungarian King, Louis II, who was only 20. This led to the end of the Habsburg-free Kingdom of Hungary until 1918, and gave the Ottoman Empire its peak form. My question is, what would happen if the Ottomans failed in the Hungarian campaign just as they had a century prior? What if Hungary and its dynasty had survived the Renaissance, and what would happen to the reputation of Suleiman?
