A letter arrives in the late evening of October 20th, carried by a courier riding into Naples on horseback. Quickly, the courier rushes to the Castel Nuovo, placing the letter in the hands of Don Pedro Alcantara Alvarez de Toledo y Salm Salm, 13th Duke of the Infantado, and current Spanish representative in the Neapolitan Court. The Duke quickly hands the letter off to His Majesty King Ferdinand.
To My Brother, Ferdinand,
I fear that today's message is not one of joy, as seems to have been the common of theme of the past year. As you may know, our cousin, Louis of France, is dead, accompanied into heaven by his wife and child. Charles, by all rights the true heir to the throne, has fled into Germany, and the French have claimed a new King, Louis-Phillipe d'Orleans. While Louis-Phillipe is, by certain heritage, a claimant to the throne of France, Charles still reigns as the closer in line.
With this in mind, I wish to call an assembly of our House to consult and discuss how we, the other great leaders of the Bourbon, are to react to the current situation.
With All Grace and Love, Your Cousin, Carlos de Borbon
