By far, the chefs that seem to be the proudest of their heritage and their cuisine are the Italian chefs. And we’ve seen a variety of them over the seasons. We’ve had guys like Frank (S13) that get super invested in cheese manicotti, guys like Clemenza (S10) who grew up working in a pizzeria and who said “my parents spoonfed me puttanesca,” guys like Bret (S14) who are Bret and who made a challenge-winning risotto that made it onto the HK menu in S18. On the other hand, we’ve had women like Jackie (S15) who are Italian through and through, fresh out of Jersey, but screw up an eggplant parm, or Salvatore (S7), who didn’t make his own pasta for the signature dish. Then there’s other Italians like Frank (S15), Pat (S16), Gina (S11), and Vinny (S8). There’s no larger point here, just an observation of how many Italian chefs seem to make it onto Hell’s Kitchen.
