Is rogaine strictly for use on the crown?

I recently bought some rogaine and the instructions say it’s for use on the crown. What if my hairline is receeding or I have some thinning along the part in my hair? Will the Rogaine fo anything? Is there another product I need to buy? Am I just fucked?
