The Guilty Gear wiki has practically nothing in the "Allusions" section (which chronicles all of the possible music references in a character's design/moveset) on Happy Chaos' page, and I know Guilty Gear characters tend to be loaded with musical symbolism, so do any of you guys have any potential ideas? Because I'd really like to fill that section out a bit more.
Now, granted, I'm frankly not too familiar with the "scene" the type of music Daisuke tends to pay homage to is from, but here's what I've at least managed to pick out:
Chaos' perpetual smile and x-shaped glasses really evoke Nirvana's logo, which is also carried over into Curse's projectile, which has an even more pronounced resemblance. He also has long, messy, light-colored hair like Kurt Cobain, but this isn't exactly a feature unique to Cobain in the rock world.
Edit: someone pointed out that Happy Chaos basically has achieved a kind of Nirvana courtesy of his omnipotence and all-powerful nature, so I think there's definitely some connection to Nirvana
His belt bears a symbol that resembles the astrological sign for Gemini (♊️), of which there are numerous songs, bands, and albums named after. Gemini is often associated with duality and twins, and astrology weirdos say Geminis tend to be scatter brained, energetic, and flip-floppy about their interests, all of which line up nicely with Chaos' personality and theming.
The fact that he's always shirtless resembles musician Iggy Pop, who was apparently well known for doing live shows shirtless.
The teeth inside the heart emblem on Chaos' chest remind me of the album art for Swans' debut album Filth.
Chaos' gun, Crescent Moon, is said to be a unique, holy weapon of which only 5 are said to exist across all dimensions, which could be a reference to Daisuke's own Six Black Heavens Guns. As for the name, I found a few bands named Crescent and a J-pop song called Crescent Moon.
Welsh thrash metal band Bullet for my Valentine has a song titled "Curse." There's also an album by Gothic rock band Alien Sex Fiend of the same name.
There are numerous songs titled "Scapegoat" from bands like Chumbawumba, Fear Factory, Guano Apes and downthesun that all sort of fit the approximate genre and time period Daisuke tends to reference.
There's a Dutch alt-rock band named "Focus."
There's an album by industrial rock band Machines of Loving Grace called "Concentration."
There are several rock bands named "Deus Ex Machina," as well as a song by Smashing Pumpkins.
I know a lot of these probably seem like stretches, and that's because they are. Like I said, I'm not the most knowledgeable person in regards to rock, so I'm interested to see what those who are have to say on the topic.
