Hello. I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or if my class is not best for solo play. Perhaps it's both?
Playing as AAR Spellbinder on Normal Veteran (first playthrough), level 52 around Coven. I have lifesteal off-hand from Amalgamation and prioritize defensive stats over offensive in most gear pieces. Dumped most attributes in physique. No defensive devotions though, rushing for an hourglass. Also not using components for gear - seems wasteful to do while still leveling up.
6.7K HP, 520 Armor Rating, most resistances are over 50-70%, 1.3K Defense ability, 27K dps with the Ray so lots of lifesteal.
I can even facetank most bosses with damage absorbtions skills, but keep getting oneshot in these "Hardcore" dungeons (which require skeletal keys) by volleys of archers or a couple random projectiles from caster mobs, no time to press anything, just oneshot.
I am already full clearing map so no better gear for me, and my class can't exactly itemize full defense with heavy shield and whatnot.
Is AAR SPellbinder is just not the way for solo play? Or do I just wait for a better gear, perhaps from another playthrough?
Is what I did for my aether AAR spellbinder devos.
OP is not doing HC. They're doing the skelly dungeons which are pseudo HC in that you can't reenter the area in the same session if you die in the dungeon. Also, turtle is not a required devo even if you are actually playing HC. Yes, I've played 100 hours of HC. Got ~3,400 hours in SC.
If you build your char right, usually it doesn't even matter if you get sundered.
I had over 3,000 hours of game knowledge before I tried HC. :) Worst case scenario, 2,700 hours, and I still wouldn't say turtle is a required constellation for a less experienced HC player.

It's not wasteful. Do it.
I've moved skill points around and added components to everything. You should be doing more damage and be significantly more durable now.

Get the relic haunt for more RR. Make sure your lowest level gear is updated. I'd also redo your devos to this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/697499340880609371/1196547825446690987/image.png?ex=65b80700&is=65a59200&hm=992a13662afea8009d63941cc18c90873a2a4eeaf0cd26f930302477457dbb1b&

And I have 4 other AAR chars and none of them use hourglass.
Eh. I don't have that on my spellbinder. It's optional
