How much life is there in the game?

Hi everyone
I was thinking about buying the game since it's on sale. But I wonder for how long the online aspect is going be available?
Never played a GT game but always wanted to, I just don't want to loose my time and get a couple of months out of it.
I've heard that for GT games the servers get shut off a couple of months after the next one is released.
What are your thoughts? Worth it or not at this point.
