I have worked in a structural biology lab for almost 16 months primarily working with protein biochemistry. Although over the course of my experience with biochemistry, I realised my interests lie in interpreting cellular based assays.

I need help with navigating what criteria to start with. My PI has asked me to look for a high output lab but my intentions are to join a lab which I'll have a genuine interest in.

As for my long term goals, I would definitely want to shift to industry after my PhD. I've read a few posts on this subreddit which stated that the US has a much better industrial ecosystem than that in Europe.

My work in this current lab had been extremely grueling and would it be a wise decision for me to try to opt for a shorter PhD (which is possible in Europe)?

Edit: The current lab that I'm in is one of the best labs in the country (in terms of publications and research) and I have endured a lot of toxicity in this lab in the hopes of gaining a formidable PhD position.
