General elections took place in Peru on November 11th, 2020 to determine the President, Vice-Presidents, composition of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, and the Peruvian representatives to the Andean Parliament.
In Congress, the Peruvians for Change party won out with a quarter of the vote and 51 out of 130 seats. The Broad Front came in second with 39 seats, and the Popular Force was elected to 17 seats, a record loss for the coalition after the landslide victory in 2016.
In the race for the Presidency, the incumbent Peruvians for Change candidate Pedro Pablo Kuczynski ran for reelection, and received 39% of the vote in first round elections, but failed to get the 50% necessary for an immediate victory. The Broad Front candidate Verónika Mendoza won a landslide victory against Popular Force candidate Keiko Fujimori (daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori) and readied herself to run against Kuczynski in November. Due to the recent surge in popularity for social democracy and welfare to grow the economy, Mendoza won with a 2% lead over the incumbent, and will inaugurated to the presidency in January. She promises to continue Peru's route towards a fair and equitable capitalism, with recent economic troubles to be left behind.
