is GL-AR750S slate too slow as a VPN Server?

Hi Everyone,
I had issues setting up my raspberry pi as a VPN server so I switched to my Slate. I noticed my wifi-speed is only 30mb/second and when I connect to it with Wiregaurd Slate client (I purchased two), it's even worse. Is it because of my set up or because the slate isn't for this purpose? If anyone has recommendations on a good product to use instead or configuration I'd appreciate it. I am travelling in a few days and I'd like to remote into my home network so it is serving this purpose.
