The Appetiser
Hello everybody! Welcome to chapter 3 of my request..
If you wanna see part 1 of my confessions, feel free to click here to view what I had to say the last time around.
Part 2 I’ll link that up shortly!
So, a little about me:
I’m 28 years of age, and living abroad with my partner. Currently we’re trying to save enough money for when our work program is over, so that we can get visa proceedings and an apartment sorted (as opposed to being homeless). We’re trying to negotiate with our workplace about staying an extra year because of the pandemic and also to save up enough to live together in either my or his country after the program is over, and to also pay off student debt. We’ve run into some personal health problems over the last couple months, which have set us back a bit.
So let's talk about Kingdom Hearts:
I’ve been a fan of the series for a really long time, since it’s inception really. My cousin was the one to introduce the game to me, while he was showing other cousins his shiny brand new game. I don’t come from a well off family, so we weren’t really able to afford much for a really long time. Games were really far down the list of priorities, especially when one of my siblings have been repeatedly diagnosed with cancer. Watching or playing a game felt like a way to escape a lot the doom and gloom I experienced on a daily basis at home, and all of my siblings felt the same way.
Just like my siblings, I’ve watched my cousin play the first game and follow Sora on his journey as he repaired what was broken with the power of friendship, and confront adversities along the way. The first game impacted us so much that my brother kept asking for the second game for ages, and my parents eventually relented for him. While he wasn’t in chemo he’d play his save file explore as Sora grew up in Kingdom Hearts 2, while I maintained my save file on the same card. We both explored the many worlds the game had to offer, and found excitement in defeating every boss, exhilaration in exploring different worlds, shock in plot twists, laughter at some of the recorded voice acting (and Donald Duck just talking overall) and lament for Roxas's fate, who we find out is Sora’s "nobody".
Even back then, I wanted to see a game that had more Kairi in it, felt like she was barely included at all.
When I heard of Melody of Memories, I was excited! It’s a story completely based about Kairi’s perspective, a game I’ve been looking for since forever. There’s also the added bonus of being able to listen to the wonderful OST that the game has to offer.
