My first game console was the Sega Genesis. I was a child at the time, and the games that I enjoyed playing were action games such as the Sonic franchise, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 2, and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. As time passed, I was introduced to RPGs and grand strategy games - after playing Sangokushi Retsuden: Ransei no Eiyū Tachi, I became a fan of both the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel and the grand strategy games (developed by Koei) based on said novel.
My favorite game genres now are JRPGs, SRPGs, and action adventure games; a preference developed after purchasing a PlayStation 2 (years after release, the initial price was surprisingly high for my liking).
Since the price of gaming consoles never really got any cheaper after the PS2 era, I do my gaming on the PC now (which is not the best choice due to the lack of JRPGs and SRPGs on Steam). As I don't have much disposable income, I am still using a low-spec PC (Dell XPS 420 with an ATI Radeon HD5450 graphics card) and am very selective about the games that I purchase. If a game interests me, I do research on it, put it on my wishlist, and then wait patiently for a good sale.
The people in this subreddit has been really good to me - because of their generosity, I was able to experience and enjoy a lot games that I would normally have dismissed due to the limitations of my gaming budget. These are mainly games that I think that I will enjoy playing, but have enough reservations on some aspects of the game that makes me reluctant to buy the game myself (in case I end up not enjoying it). For example, I was interested in Strike Suit Zero due to the titular suit's resemblance to an Orbital Frame (from the Zone of the Enders franchise) and my being a fan of mecha - problem is that my research into the game seemed to indicate that the mecha form was a gimmick and that combat was mainly done as a space fighter.
