“A veces yo soy Dios, si digo que un hombre muere, muere el mismo día.” – Pablo Escobar

Introducing: The Cartels

By the 10th of June, it wasn’t news that the new Secretary of Justice had been wanting to do major reforms to the judiciary and legislative systems of Mexico, in order to actively prosecute criminals and associates of the cartel; a leak inside the government had provided El Gori II with the information required to conduct a major meeting of Mexican drug lords, which occurred on June 11, 2022.

There, the main leaders and lieutenants of Los Zetas, CJNG, CDS and CDG and LFM, met in order to negotiate a truce; the meeting was filled with threats, demands and even the high risk of a shootout between the main captains of the narcotrafficking groups; it was only with the guile – and threats of violence – by El Mencho that the threats of infighting were quelled for a brief period of time.

In the meeting, the situation had been regarded as one of high-risk for all Mexican cartels; while extradition was still on the table, the possibility of a high-velocity prosecution with elite police officers that are not corruptible, was a terrifying prospect for many capos and lieutenants of many of these narco organizations. A truce was organized between all factions and a public letter was released on June 12, 2022. The letter was as follows:

“From the Faction of Liberation, Justice and Freedom of Mexico: we warn the government; for it wants to prosecute those that have been saving the peoples from the abuses of the State. The government should not, under any circumstance, attempt to overstep its boundaries. We will not accept any dictatorship, any abuses, any violations of our rights nor of any Mexican citizen. We warn the police officers, to think long and hard about the consequences of their actions; we warn our President, for she cannot overstep her boundaries. For the new Secretary of Justice, we only have to say the following: You’re not God. You’re not the judge of Men. You’re a single human being, and human beings are prone to failures; we hope that you realize the errors of your ways before it is too late. May God bless Mexico, justice, freedom and our liberties, and may they never be violated.”

The media immediately became curious about this group, the FLJFM, better known as LJF by the common people; no one knew what it was, or what it even represented. It only became common knowledge that it was an umbrella faction of the unified voices of the cartel a few days after the fact, when leaks of a CJNG gunman entering a publicity agency appeared on the news. It was the cartels’ way of announcing that they were united in their hatred against the government, and it wasn’t only through words either.

June 21, June 25, June 29, June 30; all of these dates were brutal attacks by cartel gunmen on multiple states of Mexico. Pueblo, Oaxaca, Durango and, to top it off, Mexico City. All of these states suffered drive-by shootings and even two bombs, with the Mexico City attack being directed at a judge, who unfortunately passed away due to his injuries.

To many, it seemed that the government was going to be poking one of the biggest hornet’s nest that the world itself had ever seen, when they proposed the reforms regarding the Mexican system; some approved it, some loathed it, many hoped that it would work, and that Mexico would, someday, see the end of its violence.

However, in rural Michoacán, hidden in a small community, El Mencho was thinking otherwise; he sat down with a group of well-trained gunmen, and discussed the next steps of the war against the government. He wasn’t going to stop until the government either bent or broke, and if it the situation dependent on Pres. Aleida and Sec. of Justice Alfredo, the entire Mexican nation would have to be turned to rubble before the Mexican cartels triumphed.
