Hi! So, about two weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night with severe burning in my chest and stomach. I went to the hospital, was cleared for heart attack, got an emergency gastro appointment and did an endoscopy and bloodwork. The pain was pretty bad for a few days.
The endoscopy showed an ulcer immediately, while I waited for the results of the biopsy etc. That whole week I did no coffee, bland food, and my PPI every morning. I took the sucralfate like two or three times too, but I canāt get the timing down and my doctor said to use that as needed.
My pain is gone now! Itās been 5 days without pain. I went to get my official results yesterday, and he said I have āmild chronic gastritisā and to take my PPI for 4-6 weeks and the ulcer will close, then after we can just not over eat spicy or fried food, and test out foods that may hurt me. I asked if there was any food I canāt ever eat again, and he said aside from alcohol for these 4 weeks, I can eat whatever I want as long as it doesnāt hurt me, and that he would strongly advise against fried food and acidic food right now. But that I can eat a burger and see if it bothers me, and if it doesnāt Iām okay to indulge sometimes. He also said I can have coffee, and that only 30% of people with Gastritis are affected by coffee in terms of pain. My partner was there and he asked if eating this stuff would make my ulcer WORSE or would it just hurt me, and he said it would just hurt me and be uncomfortable.
So yesterday I wanted to see- so I took my PPI as normal, but I also drank coffee, had Mac and cheese, and had honey mustard. I had zero pain, zero issues.
Itās been a few days now. Iāve been eating pretty regularly, just no hot sauce or vinegar or lemon.
So my question is- if I have no pain and I take my PPI for the next 4-6 weeks, take sucraflate before any big greasy meal (like if I was to indulge on a burger and fries) and take Pepcid after the meal, will I be okay?
I eat primarily healthy anyway, but I have literally zero pain. Itās all gone now. And my doctor said it was okay. So Iām confused!
A few more questions :
- Halloween is in about 4 weeks, making it 6 weeks of treatment. Can I have a few drinks on Halloween? Itās my birthday week so Iād love to, but obviously itās okay if I canāt. Iām just confused about the timeline
- Speaking of my birthday, I intended on having pizza and pasta and fried food on my birthday. Same thing as above applies
- I was gonna have Chipotle today (without corn bc corn actually hurts me i found and without tomatoes or salsa)
What do you guys think?? Iām VERY new to this, and I see everyone on this sub in massive pain but I just donāt feel it. I was in pain for like a week at most, but itās all good now.
Whatās the vibe here?
