Can you safely retension older garage door springs?
Post Body

My tension springs were replaced about 7 years ago. No visible corrosion. There's currently about 30lbs of downward force and I'd like to adjust the tension so i can remove the strain from the opener.

Is this too late in the game for these springs?

The reason I'm asking is because we upgraded an old opener and the installer is upselling the living shit out of me at the moment. Refused to re-tension the springs because they're more than 2 years old, which seems a bit severe. I am having trouble believing him at this point and told him to just install the motor and I'd take it from there . . .

I will obvioiusly get a professional to put the springs in if necessary.

  1. You should not fuck with springs
  2. That company sounds shitty, always make sure the door runs correctly before adding an opener.. a professional to add a half turn is so easy and quick
