Given the recent instability in Portugal with the Nationalist Party and the Conservative Bloc at odds in Parliament and in the streets, the King has decided to call for new elections due to the instability that the more recent one, which happened just three months ago, began. The Portuguese Army has been rousted from its garrisons to begin augmenting the Civil Guard in the streets of the country's major cities and at the polls, while the Exchequer is preparing to balance out its budget with the government's recent spending spree by offering to sell two wooden frigates, dating from 1820 (the Sao Paulo, the Sao Bento, and the Brasil) to the Koreans or the Japanese. In the meantime, it seems that the current Prime Minister is totally incapable of containing the nationalists' rise to power, so regardless of the outcome of this next election, it is all but assured that the Conservative Bloc will either shatter under its own weight or come out bloodied with a new leader at the helm. King Peter V, as per usual, is taking a neutral stance on this election, although he has ordered the royal yacht to be readied to sail to the Azores "for a break" just two days before the election...
