I've struggled with maintaining friendships and relationships throughout my life. Don't get me wrong, being a bit of a loner has its benefits. I can make my own plans without worrying about what others may think, and I get a lot of time to think and reflect. But you know how it is; eventually it gets dull. Part of you is always yearning for something, or someone else. It's easy to end up living inside your head, while time whittles away. Sometimes, you just wish you had someone to share all those thoughts with.
I'm a 29 year old man from London who works full-time in a research library, where I deal with archives. It pays relatively well considering how most library jobs are. I live with my parents, though I am self-reliant financially and in my day-to-day life. London rent is crazy and I want to be able to help my parents as they get older.
I'm 5'8", with short, thick, dark blonde hair and blue eyes. I'm white, with a very slight tan from when I worked outside while at university. I shave at least once every week, so I'm usually sporting some stubble after a few days. I'm slightly chubby, but not noticeably so. I'm working towards losing that weight and regaining the slim body I had in my early 20s.
My interests and hobbies include:
- Long walks - I'd love to get into hiking and I've been on a few walks with the Ramblers.
- Galleries, Museums, anywhere where I can be exposed to culture, music and other beautiful things.
- Pubs, coffee shops, restaurants - yes I am an introvert, but I still like to go out to places now and then. It would be even nicer if I had company :)
- Gaming - I prefer strategy and simulator games. I'm also partial to a bit of Minecraft.
- History - Well, I spent 3 years studying it! It's always been a passion of mine, trying to figure out how we got to where we are, reading about crazy events that happened, seeing how different cultural norms were back then. I just love it :)
- Tolkien's Legendarium - I'm ashamed to say that I've never read The Lord of the Rings, but I did manage to finish the Silmarillion and the Hobbit. I've been a huge fan of all things 'Lord of the Rings-related' from a young age :)
- Science news/communication - I'm not a scientist myself, but I do love to hear about new discoveries and breakthroughs (good and not-so-good!) in the hard sciences.
Of course, this isn't an exhaustive list, but I hope it gives you a good idea of the kind of things I like. Personality-wise, I can be a little shy and awkward at times. I do have Aspergers Syndrome, so that probably contributes to it. That being said, few things feel better than coming out of my shell when I find some common ground with someone!
This is Reddit and I'm not giving my hopes up of finding anyone here. I made this post because I like to believe that somewhere out there, there's a kindred spirit who may see this and feel a little spark. And if you're out there, kindred spirit, I'd really like to say 'hi' :)
