Looking for games like FF 5-10

The closest I found that has a captivating story and fun gameplay was persina 5. I tried trails of cold steel 1, but the story was insanely slow, I tried yakuza like a dragon, but I didn’t find the combat system rewarding, shit I even tried Octopath traveler, but found the story incredibly convoluted and lost interest. Is there anything that hits like the OG’s for y’all? I’m looking for strategic gameplay with a well paced story and some interesting characters.
