Should I record audio from an external source or through a microphone inputted into the camera?

Post Body
For my short film I’m planning on using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k Pro. While watching videos for tips on using the camera, the YouTuber says that you should avoid inputting mics directly into the camera, because the level is too low. If that’s the case, what’s a good option for recording audio externally? I’m planning on using the Tascam Dr-40 with a book mic but is there anything else I should know? Thanks!
