I just was fired from my 6 figure a year job, that I have had for 8 years. In 2019, I plead guilty to an administrative felony (postal inspector and a form.) The company was aware of it and HR allowed me time off for court and stuff. 6 months ago the company brought in a new CEO who immediately implemented a no-felons rule because the company has federal contracts. I have held a security clearance for the last 5 years. In 7 months itās time for recertification. So, the company terminated me Monday using the āfelons canāt have security clearances Line. (Yeah they can, it adds a step but there are exceptions to policy) Anyways I am almost 60 and I realized at 2 am this morning that I will never have another 6 figure job in my life and most companies will not hire me because of my age and the felony. I have a few months of runway built up for my bills, but I seriously could end up homeless in my old age. I am too old for the trades or construction. I feel my life is over and there is nothing I can do to fix it.
Update: thank you all for the wonderful words of encouragement. The shock has worn off and I am making some positive changes and getting rid of a lot of excess stuff and people. I had to tell a lot of people that come to me for āloansā or ask me to help with bills, that they are on their own. I am selling off my overly expensive car and driving a smaller sensible car. I am downsizing my whole life and I am surprisingly OK with it. I am absolutely going to look at marketing my self as a consultant and am talking to a company about joining their team. I even have a kickstarter that goes live staring tomorrow. I think Iām gonna be ok. Thank you all again for the support.
What state are you in?
