Hi ladies! I have a few questions as a FTM & a gal new to breastfeeding & pumping.
I had my daughter on 3/27 (so just a little over a week ago) & had issues with her properly latching. This in combination with me having no true desire to actually breastfeed, but still wanting her to reap the benefits of breast milk, decided to exclusively pump.
In the madness of the first few days of newborn life, I was not pumping nearly as much as I shouldāve. I pumped maybe 3 times a day for about 20-30 minutes at a time. I know now that breast milk is made on a supply & demand basis, and have since increased my pumping to 6-7 30 minute sessions per day.
However, Iām still not getting much milk. Out of my right breast, by the end of the day, I probably make an ounce to an ounce and a half. Out of my left, I get a few drops from each pump session. Iāve read online that in addition to pumping often, that body Armors & protein shakes can help to increase supply, so Iāve started drinking one of each daily.
Here are my questions: 1. Have I missed my opportunity to make enough milk by not staying on top of pumping in those first few days? 2. What else can I do to increase my supply? 3. I know itās normal to have a āboss boobā & a āslacker boobā but is it normal for your slacker boob to produce drops each session? 4. After increasing the amount of my pump sessions, when should I see an increase in my supply?
Iām sure these questions have been posed & answered elsewhere, so forgive me in advance! Please feel free to point me in the right direction š
Thanks in advance, yall!
I always recommend cluster pumping once or twice a day until you see an increase. Basically allotting an hour a day and pump for 10 minutes take a break for 10 minutes and repeat for an hour I also suck at waking up after Iāve fallen asleep and since my baby is in the NICU I donāt have a loud alarm clock that makes my boobs hurt to wake me up at night so I probably get 3 pumps in at night and then go a 4/6 hour stretch without pumping so I do a power pump session too. I also use hot compresses while pumping. I noticed a dip in my supply for a couple days and added the compresses and it helped bring it back up. But the dip might be a clogged duct for my but I canāt tell for sure since thereās no pain with the hardness
