I can give a pass to Ash and Danny from the OG Evil Dead and Rise given that the demons were summoned through tapes. But rewatching Evil Dead 2013 last night and seeing Eric read out loud from a book that’s not only bound in human skin but covered with barbed wire made me facepalm. I get people are curious but literally nothing good can come from reading a book that says to not read, write, or speak any of passages, you’re just asking for trouble at that point.
Maybe it’s just the superstitious Latino inside of me but forget the book, my girlfriend and I would’ve packed up and left the moment I saw the blood near the cellar door. I’m not going in just to check what’s down there, I’m not saying a prayer or doing a seance, or calling 911, I’m dipping right away and getting a hotel in the nearest town.
Jokes aside, I’m not religious (I was raised Pentecostal) but I’ve always felt that if something’s locked away in a vault or buried deep in the ground, it’s better to leave it alone instead of risking opening the door to who knows what. I don’t believe in demons but that doesn’t mean I’m going to do a seance with a Ouija board from Target. I think the moral of the story, just use common sense and throw the book out of the window instead throwing out the former
