question for all my people out there with thin soled horses! my lovely little tb recently went lame and luckily he was due for the farrier the next day so we got to investigate for an abscess, bruise, etc. we came up with nothing however he did hoof test positive on both front feet. he has very thin soles and for most of the dry season he had pour on pads and then we had to take them off due to his brittle/dry feet not holding them well and we did glue ons for two cycles and he was perfect! my farrier thinks he was off because his soles were sensitive from not having the pads on (i do live in a rockier area). so she put them back on. a day later he’s still not sound but my farrier told me to wait a few more days because soreness doesn’t go away immediately. however i am quite impatient especially when i don’t have a secure answer🤣 like if there’s an abscess brewing somewhere we couldn’t see then i’m prolonging him feeling better you know? so my question is that has anyone ever changed to pads for thin soles and does it take some time for them to be comfortable again? or what is everyones experience with thin soled horses like does this happen often, etc. thanks!! :)
